Make a 360 material turntable in Adobe Substance 3D Stager

Feb 22, 2023 | Tutorials | 0 comments

The latest release of Substance 3D Stager comes with a long awaited feature: the ability to make turntables! So I decided to take advantage of this to make a small tutorial that showcase how you can render your material.

Turntables are here!

Substance 3D Stager now comes with turntable animations capabilities (something that the community has been asking for a while). The focus has been made on simplicity, so we don’t overcharge the user interface for nothing. Anyway, it remains super useful if you want to showcase your 3D assets in a beautiful way. Once you know how it works (and sthis tutorial should help), it should’nt take more than 5 minutes to set your animation up.

 Making a material turntable

Materials are part of Substance 3D DNA,  so I wanted to experiment this new Stager feature, for material rendering. As Substance 3D Designer & Substance 3D Sampler have a direct “Export material to Stager”, it couldn’t be easier (and it also shows the importance of interoperability in an ecosystem! So I made a first test base on a Substance 3D Assets material:

I was happy with the result, and apparently, I wasn’t the only one, as I received great feedback, and was asked if I could explain my workflow so here we go!

Coming soon: the written version (+ french & Spanish versions on YouTube)

I’m not done yet with this, as I will try to find the time to make a written version in this same post. I’ll also add the french and Spanish versions in YouTube.
